Health Sciences Renovation - Minneapolis, MN
The project for MCTC located on busy Hennepin Avenue in Minneapolis poses a few complex problems. CM needed to convert an old car dealership as well as an office building into a 4-level expansion to the college for Health Sciences labs, classrooms, and offices.
The first order of business was the demolition of 90,000 square foot building interior and exterior masonry walls, while protecting pedestrian and vehicle traffic on the busy street below. Further, the building required boring holes under the busy streets while avoiding decades-old buried infrastructure.
New mechanical and electrical systems needed to be routed around and through four levels of heavy concrete structure. The exterior was replaced with an energy efficient glass curtain wall system and a terra cotta "raingarden" cladding wall system.
